PEMPED-Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician Extender Development Program


Our Mission: “To provide up to date, problem-based learning in the field of emergency medicine in a state of the art facility, and to exceed the expected role of a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Provider.”


Program Overview: 

A 12 -month post graduate training program involving Brown Pediatric Emergency Medicine (previously University Emergency Medicine Foundation /UEMF) faculty and senior Advanced Practice Providers to support a comprehensive emergency medicine program.


The program utilizes Hasbro Children’s Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital as sites for orientation, training, and clinical rotations for newly graduated or non-emergency medicine trained Advanced Practice Providers All sites are affiliated with the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Lifespan, Inc., and are teaching facilities. 


Program Requirements-Your application MUST include:

· Certificate from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program

· Official Transcripts

· Current NCCPA certification 

· Rhode Island State licensure/eligible

· Personal Statement

· A GPA of 3.1 or greater

· Curriculum Vitae

· Personal Interview

· Three letters of recommendation


Program Content (PEMPED)

During the Development year, EMPEDS receive training:

· Five hours of didactic conferences each week with Brown Pediatric Emergency Medicine trainees. 

· Hands on training in various Emergency Departments, working with appointed faculty.

· Procedure workshops and lectures provided by senior physicians and appointed faculty.

· Radiology and Ultrasound training

· Child Abuse Rotation

· Psychiatry Rotation

· Critical Care and Trauma Exposure

· Pediatric Clinical Decision Unit


Trainings

· EKG Interpretation

· Pediatric Sedation

· Silt Lamp

· Suturing and I&D

· GYN and ENT procedures

· Lumbar punctures
